Sam’s insight: March 2020

When there is something within you that moves in the right direction, it creates its own discipline.
As the life of awareness settles on your darkness, whatever is evil will disappear and whatever is good will be fostered.

The moment you slap a label on someone your understanding of that person has stopped.
You transform yourself through observation. Through understanding, without interference or judgment on your part. Because what you judge you can’t understand.

The reason you suffer from your depression and your anxiety is that you identify with them. You say, “I am depressed.” But you are not your depression. You are experiencing depression right now. But it will change. It won’t last; it never lasts; it’s always changing. Clouds come and go: some of them are black and some white, some of them are large, others small. Be like the sky, observe the clouds.

Why not concentrate on the now instead of hoping for better times in the future? Why not understand the now instead of forgetting it and hoping for the future? Isn’t future just another trap?

Wake up! When you’re ready to exchange your illusions for reality, when you’re ready to exchange your fantasy for facts, that’s the way you find it all. That’s where life finally becomes meaningful. Life becomes beautiful.

You thought people were nice. They are not. They’re as bad as you are——bad! They’re sleep like you. And what do you think they seek? Their own self-interest, exactly like you. No difference. It’s liberating to know that you’ll never be disillusioned again. Never be disappointed again.

You want happiness? You want freedom? Here it is: drop your false ideas, see through people. If you see through yourself, you will see through everyone. Then you will love them.

Selfishness seems to come out of an instinct for self-preservation, which is our deepest and first instinct. So, stop feeling bad about being selfish.

It’s not that we fear the unknown because we can’t fear something that we don’t know. Nobody is afraid of the unknown. What we really fear is the loss of the known. That’s what we fear the most.

The most difficult thing in the world is to listen, to see. We don’t want to look, because if we do, we may change. If we look, we lose control of the life we are so precariously holding together.

In order to wake up, the one thing you need the most is the readiness to learn something new. The chances that you will wake up are in direct proportion to the amount of truth you can take without running away.
