Let Go of Your Past so You Can Brighten Your Future!

Are you unable or unwilling to let go of the past? It’s amazing how we ruin our present and sacrifice our future so we can stay slaves to our past. Let me share a story with you. It’s the one about two Zen monks, Chu and Han, who were walking along a country road that had become extremely muddy after heavy rains. Near a village they encounter a young woman who was trying to cross the road but the mud was so deep it would have ruined the silk dress she had on. Chu at once picked her up and carried her to the other side. The monks walked on in silence for another five hours until finally Han couldn’t restrain himself any longer. “Why did you carry that girl across the road?” he asked. “You know we monks are not supposed to do things like that.” “I put the girl down hours ago,” said Chu. “Are you still carrying her?”

Can you imagine the heavy burden Han was carrying for five hours? He continually fed his mind with the thoughts of resentment, not unlike so many people on the planet. This story beautifully illustrates how people like Han are unable or unwilling to let go mentally of events or situations in life. Therefore accumulating more baggage which each passing day until they finally become “victims of circumstances.” This negative emotion lives in you and consumes you. It’ll turn you from being cause over your life into becoming an effect, from being a sovereign into a slave and from your natural state of joy into profound unhappiness. The side effects of such negative emotions can manifest directly or indirectly, for example, as anxiety, anger, outbursts of violence, wild mood swings, or even as physical illness.

Yes I’m aware these thoughts are from memories of your past from which you can learn not to repeat the same mistake. The problem is we forget their function and allow them to take over our lives. Soon after the self begins to identify with these memories and your personality, which is conditioned by the past, becomes your prison.

I am of the opinion that regardless of what happened when and why, you can transform your life by first recognizing the problem. Now you’re half way home. Then comes the need for change, which will ignite your desire to overcome this deteriorating experience and take back what’s yours. Acknowledge your past and accept it as it was without editing or remorse so you can live again. It’s also helpful to remember what Omar Khayyam wrote in his powerful poem over 1000 years ago.
“The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out one word of it.”

The New Year is almost upon us. The year went by so quick I’m still spinning but feeling good overall. Time itself seems to be accelerating but we’re not getting older faster. We live much longer these days so it won’t matter how fast time flies. Besides, don’t count the hours but make the hours count for you. The body may die but we live forever because Life is eternal. And this is not merely an empty statement but a scientific fact. Life is composed of energy and energy never dies; it only transforms from one form to another. So, may you live very long and prosper very much!

I look forward to celebrating with you on Wednesday December 16th at the Beverly Hills Country Club. Remember the event is FREE. It’s free because I want to spread the message of harmony, abundance and prosperity for the 2010.

I wish you and your family the best of Holidays and may you hearts overflow with joy!

Kindest regards,
Sam Sadat
