The Power of Spoken Words

Be careful what you say because you just might get it. We all have heard this but very few people pay attention to it. It just seems implausible that our words have any power over our lives or does it? Well, my personal experience and research shows that words can and will affect the quality our lives. There is a lot said about how our thoughts shape our lives. In fact, some of you might have even watched The Secret, a movie about the power of thoughts. I personally subscribe to the notion that thoughts are not enough. I believe that we need to harmonize our thoughts with our words and align them with our heart. So, we have thoughts, words and hearts. If you have a positive thought about success and then start speaking words that are negative, you have just negated yourself. And let's take it one step further. If you have a positive thought, say the right words but your heart isn't in it, you have just negated yourself again. You see, you must create a congruency (harmony) between these three elements.

Let's get practical about this concept. Most of us have little control over our thoughts. In fact, over 95% of our thoughts are recurring! So, I suggest we start with words, which are more under our direct control. For example, catch yourself when you say something negative and immediately change it to positive. "Unfortunately, I cannot make more money in this economy" becomes "fortunately, there are so many options I can explore to make more money." "I don't think this is possible" becomes "everything is possible and I will find a solution for my challenge."

When you change the negative and disempowering words to positive and empowering, you will gain confidence. Couple that with your positive thoughts about your prosperity, wealth, etc. and you now have two of the three elements working in your favor. The last but certainly not the least is the function of your heart. Ask yourself if what you're thinking and uttering are aligned with your heart (desire). If so, you're working on all cylinders and your success is guaranteed. If your heart is not in it, you need to make sure that it is before you can achieve at high levels. The function of the heart is a very essential component of your success. So, speak to yourself by using power words until your heart gets the message that you are determined to succeed. Eliminate your negative vocabulary. I know we all have them thanks in large part to our parents and society but it's time to transcend it all and regain control over our lives. I suggest you read a good book by the name of "What to Say When You Talk to Yourself" by Dr. Shad Helmstetter. It will put it all in prospective for you. Here is an excerpt from The Invitation. It’s a poem by Oriah Mountain Dreamer, which I have committed to memory. Use it often and see its magical transforming power at work.

“I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the moon, “Yes!”

Let’s start by removing the word “no” from our vocab and replace it with “yes”. So, yes to your success. Yes to life and yes to this moment.
