I often hear people telling me that they don’t seem to be able to make real connections with others in the course of their business activities and therefore miss out on some golden opportunities. I always advise that they learn to manage their moods. The reality is that every mood seeks companionship. Just as misery loves company, cheerful and enthusiastic people want to associate with other upbeat people. If you are unable to match your energy with the energy of the person you’re speaking with, chances are they will not choose to do business with you.
Where is your energy going? Every day, many people find themselves without adequate energy to carry on with their objectives. Some resort to drugs, alcohol, vitamins, etc. in the hope to reenergize themselves and achieve at peak levels.
Clearly, good natural supplements are helpful, but they won’t create miracles. The truth is that we can only succeed in life when we are creating. Creativity is our inherent state. It has been bestowed upon us by the Prime Creator, Life Force, Nature, God, whatever you prefer to call it.
“Whoso would be a man, must be a nonconformist. He who would gather immortal psalms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness. Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
In perhaps his best known and most frequently quoted essay, “Self-Reliance,” Emerson expresses that to be fully alive one must resist social enculturation and be a nonconformist. Society expects conformity at the expense of personal liberty. It demands that you fit in or be an outcast. In contrast to this way of thinking, Emerson valued the integrity of the individual mind.
“People are disturbed not by things that happen but by their opinion of things that happen.”- Author Known
It is our opinions of things and not the things themselves that cause the disturbances of our lives. What a great source of liberation to know that no one can upset us, that nothing out there can make us feel miserable, that we can control how we feel by how we decide to process things, events, and other people, and their opinions.
Our real estate club is very unique in that we educate our members about “the why” as well as “the how” of success. Everyday, we get bombarded with information or “the how” to do this and that but rarely do we get any sort of real inspiration or motivation to help us take action in the direction of our dreams. The philosophy of success, “the why” or the reason, is just as important if not more so than knowing the X’s and O’s. .
